Before play: verified stakes, team quality and form, the listed spread and total, and relevant player or matchup stories. Ordinary division games receive a small boost. During play: closeness, game time, and verified momentum swings. After play: the finish and big swings across the whole game.

UNDER THE HOOD

How the rating works.

Live scores and game details come from public ESPN feeds and refresh each minute. NBA and NHL schedules include yesterday, today, and the following seven days. If the initial feed cannot be reached, retry from the status line. Later refresh failures keep the last loaded scores and mark them stale.

Before playMatchup stakes, team quality, rankings, and market expectations. NFL division positioning uses actual standings; recent form, scoring potential, and verified stories add bounded context.
During playCurrent leverage leads the rating: margin, time remaining, possession or baserunners, and verified recent momentum. Pregame reputation fades after play begins.
After playThe whole game matters: final margin, sustained competitiveness, comebacks, lead changes, overtime, and the deciding sequence when available.
Betting linesShown when ESPN lists them. MLB and NHL may offer a moneyline rather than a run/puck spread. Post-start pregame lines are not labeled as verified closes unless the feed says so.
Ranking modelMomentum signals are capped so repeated descriptions of the same run do not dominate the rating. The 1–99 score is an estimate, not a league statistic.
SCORE GUIDE

What the ratings mean.

The number answers a different question before, during, and after a game: how promising it looks, how urgently it is worth watching now, or how exciting the full game was.

95–99Exceptional Historic drama, a remarkable finish, or something rare unfolding.
85–94Tune in now A high-leverage game with a strong reason to watch immediately.
70–84Strong watch A compelling matchup, live situation, or finished game.
50–69Worth checking Competitive or notable, but not yet urgent.
1–49Background Limited stakes, an ordinary situation, or a game moving toward a clear result.

A quiet slate may have no games above 85. Scores are not forced into every range.
